Remain clam. I am a licensed Asian-American who has spend 14-years lived all over Asia. Please. Just enjoy.

Interesting. I wish we had this custom here. The last one has me baffled though, is it a joke, or is the guy somehow really sinking into the ground?
I suspect most of the video is a joke, if not all of it. Still, funny, eh?
yeah… this video is sarcastic. its not real.
It’s a joke, Joyce. The fact that it starts of plausible makes it even funnier.
I spent a couple weeks in Japan, so I’m no expert by any means. The first 3 are real, you see them all the time in Japan, although I’m not sure if they actually have different classifications as this video shows.
The 2nd one looks like a bow I’ve only seen girls do though, it looks funny for a guy to do it. The first type of bow and the third type are both very common. I’ve seen the repeated bowing as well. I’m not sure about the really long bow, it seemed to me that its more the number and depth of the bows that mattered, not how long you held it. The rest of them are probably jokes and/or based on old traditions that are no longer used.
At least one of them (dogeza) is not-uncommonly used as an emote. But not in real life.
to the long bow: really? they use it quite a lot in anime when they REALLY screw up…
I am going to send this link to my husband – he needs to work on his doge umari.
Is that the V8 model? I think I’ve got a spare water pump for one of those.
DOGE FUSE?
Just replace it.
If ya cain’t find the right fuse, a .22 bullet will do just as wel.
For the love of god, make sure it’s a spent cartridge.
All right, all right, I apologise. I’m really, really sorry, I apologise unreservedly. I do take it back, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.
Fine. You’re forgiven. Now just get back in your hole for a little while.
D< You forgot to check for ninjas!
Leach? Archie Leach?
Leach, you’re a jerk, a complete kneebiter.
Well he ain’t no Cary Grant, if that’s what you’re saying.
Obviously the joke was lost on you… I got it and had a good giggle that no one else seemed to. I’m waiting for that dude to show up on my doorstep one day with an insult specially tailored for me. Love DNA!
I saw this in a Japanese culture class. My sensei thought it was hilarious and liked to show it to us as a joke. Only two of the bows are real. The rest are silly and meant to be a joke.
This has nothing to do with “real” or not…the whole clip is a joke, for Japanese by Japanese. If you don’t get it you don’t.
Aaah, “Ra-mens”! The closest Japanese Comedy gets to British humour. (…And a very good attempt too!)
These documentaries seem to be made for foreigners (and by the way, have excellent English translations), but are in reality made for the Japanese as a harsh satire of the Japanese society itself and it’s increasing ignorance of Japanese culture.
A non suspecting foreigner might stumble upon them, mistake them for true documentaries and be left with an impression of “what a strange country!”, but to a gaijin living in Japan, they are quite hilarious.
Look up others on “Sushi”, “Origami”, “Tea Ceremony” etc…
The tea ceremony one is hilarious. “After making it through that exhausting ordeal, let’s relax with a cup of coffee!”
That’s a great video, but I don’t see why it is on this site. There’s no Engrish in it.
DrLex is right, all the engrish is fine. But it’s really funny, & for a while there i DID think it was meant 2 b serious. (I think it was “Ninja Bow” that tipped me off
)
“be warry of aproaching enemies” T_T
No Hara-Kiri ?!
Deep bow FTW!
He’s doing the pee-pee dance.
Yes, elegence is key…
get down you..lol
I’ve seen many of these in one anime/samurai movie or another… fascinating stuff! I would like to see the rest of the series. Perhaps other cultures could make helpful videos like this so culture shock and misunderstandings in different body languages can be sorted out.
orgy of evil?
Caught red-handed!
If my child is the only one to pass I’m certainly not apologizing.
Now that’s why I got punched in the face last time I went to japan!!!
That was great, but it wasn’t Engrish at all. Not sure where it should go.
I thought it was for real up until the ninja part.
The Ninja one is real. Samurai used it too.
Caught red handed? (Ok, sounds reasonable) in a orgy of evil?…(WTF?)
This confuses me greatly.
Looks like I violated the Ninja code…
Where’s the one I see in anime all the time? It’s like the one where they repeatedly bow but one hand is placed on the back of the head, as if to assist one self in the bowing process. I’ve also seen couples (not necessarily romantic couples) bowing, but person A might forget to bow, or IS the only one who should bow, so person B helps out by his/her own hand to force A’s head to bow.
I forgot to check for enemies!
Note: Incorporate the feel of pleading for your life!
