La conejita? Could this be a scam?

    • ShadowSplicer says:

No, she is not a scam, if that is what you are saying.

    • la conejita says:

No, unfortunately this IS an English school in Mazatlan Mexico. I looked it up. You can also tell that the person writing this was thinking in Spanish and just translated it into the English thinking it’s written the same way.
Have a look at the exclamation marks. He starts out with the upside down (!). Which is something done when writing in Spanish. He also calls himself teacher Roger, which is something you would call a teacher in Spanish. In English he would need to say Professor Roger.

  6. la conejita says:

    Hey, at least it’s guaranteed!

  7. tracylee says:

And the typed “explanation” below is spelled worse than the original Engrish.

Didn’t he used to be a Dread Pirate?

    • dr handle says:

Roberts, that’s Roberts you’re thinking of, The Dread Pirate Roberts. I’m glad we have la conejita here to interpret for us, because I wasn’t sure exactly what this advert was for: learning how to circumvent rules that annoy us, for example “Do not take cakie things from shops without paying for them”, or “If you eat more calories than you expend through metabolism and exercise you will get fat”, yes, I’d really like to learn how to avoid that annoying rule.

      • la conejita says:

If you do learn how to void that rule (If you eat more calories than you expend through metabolism and exercise you will get fat) you will not only become thin but also very famous and rich, assuming you pass that information to the rest of humanity.

If you lean back in your chair and look at the logo, it kinda looks like a clown.

  11. Avi says:

I’m thinking babelfish myself. You plug a sentence into an online translator and you get a word-for-word translation, not a grammatically correct one. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve caught someone claiming he can speak Spanish, but use a construction that makes it obvious to even my middling Spanish skills.
Of course, the result would be the same as a person translating words directly, but it’s hard to see someone learning another language that well without actually picking up some grammar. I’d expect a person to confuse it a bit, not just go straight up Spanish structure with English words.
I talk too much, but you get the picture.

    • JohnB says:

That’s a known side effect of thinking babelfish. Quit thinking babelfish before it’s too late, and the effects become irreversible!

  12. JohnB says:

Well, I didn’t learn the Spanish, so I guess that’s why you didn’t give me in English everything what I mean. On the whole, I’m probably better off.

  13. Alexandra says:

As a future ESL / TESOL teacher this makes me faceplam….
