Bluejade apparently got it, but didn’t even refer to it until a post today (12/3, in the “epileptic chimp” one). (She is a sly one!) It was a famous (but now quite old) series of studies purporting to have implications about proper mothering, but in the end all they really proved is that if monkeys don’t have soft material to cling to when growing up, they turn out weird. (Even weirder than they would by just growing up in a lab!)

Music and computer take up a much higher percentage of my time than they used to, and I often turn off the TV for music or computer or both. Of course, one can surf the net while half watching a TV show, and I do that often as well. As I must have commented here before, if people tell me I’m peculiar, I take it as a compliment.

I think I may be peculiar but I have no desire to change. Music and computer soaks up any free time. If I want to see something specific, i challenge myself to find it on the internet.

It used to be that TV shows were what bound American culture together. Everybody watched “I Love Lucy” and “Gunsmoke.” Now, there’s nothing that everybody watches. The closest you get to a show everybody watches, around here at least, is “American Idol,” which I personally detest. As I’ve gotten older and more crotchety I tend to watch mostly documentaries, although if I feel like watching a “real TV show” almost any of the crime series will do. I admire people who don’t watch TV, actually, although I don’t think I could live that way myself. I’m too used to “being entertained.” As it was, the year we watched only network TV because we couldn’t afford cable seemed like a terrible deprivation to me!

It’s a circular instruction. I think it’s been done on purpose – the person who wrote this sign gets lots of lols by hiding away, and watching the thai-speaking and english-speaking people argue with one another over what the correct course of action is. The arguments are rendered even more hilarious by the fact that they can’t understand each other.
