1 of 5 minutes down the road late bus to there
Submitted by: Chris Barfoot via Engrish Funny Submissions
I’m not exactly sure, but I think it is saying this bus can travel through time.
adnoxious.blogspot.com
Taking aim at lousy advertising
But only one of five minutes at a time, which seems an odd way to time travel.
Which one? It could be one minute in 1976, one in 2048, one in 1024, one in 455000 BC, and one right now.
See what I mean? Is that any way to run a time machine?
There probably aren’t even any on-board foods or beverages, either.
I’d still pay you $1,000,000 to use that time machine… if I could pay AFTER I use it… assuming you still existed after I used it. (Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha)
I’ll take the TARDIS any day.
Can I get a Christopher Eccleston or a David Tenant with that?
Sorry, only William Hartnell or Jon Pertwee are available, and maybe a video of Tom Baker.
Jon Pertwee! My favorite Doctor! The Doctor is IN!!!
Mine too. Would you concur with my theory that your favourite Doctor is the first one you have clear memories of?
No, he is my favorite because he spent so much time in Earth’s history, and his stories were very fun.
I thinks it means the bus does travel through time; and also through space, but the departure time can only be predicted with 20% accuracy.
Such shoddy craftsmanship these days…
It’s saying that every five minutes a dolmus is gonna be available for departure (dolmus is a kind of downtown public carpool-taxi combination). At least I think that’s what it says.
Actually, just for the record, it means:
Dolmuş’s (pronounced “dole-moosh”) pass every five minutes from the road below.
For more info, see here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Share_taxi#Dolmu.C5.9F_.28Turkey.29
….I’m a bit rusty with my Turkish.
I have to walk one of five minutes down the road to catch a late bus, that goes there?
I’ll just take a cab.
Wait, where?
There.
There? EGGsakly where???
Where you want to go.
Well, okay then.
A time travelling bus?Yeah…
The very last Doctor Who episode was about a time travelling bus!
Mind you, anyone seen on a bus that’s over the age of 750…
Actually it wasn’t; the bus travelled in space, by going through a wormhole (I think at the North exit from the Blackwall Tunnel, but am prepared to proved wrong on that), rather than through time.
It was a space wormhole. I like the flying bus, though.
Are we There yet?
Are we There yet?
Are we There yet?
Are we There yet?
No, not yet.
No, not yet.
No, not yet.
Yes! yet! We’re there!
Actually, we’ll never be “there”…
As “there” is a place distant from “here”
Great. Just great. Now I’m never getting home.
The type A personalities are on the bus that arrives early and closes the door and leaves by the atomic clock. The type B personalities ride this bus that heads out 5 minutes late, when it feel right, and instead of following the route and fighting traffic, goes to… there. While you are there, you can get good coffee, feed the geese and fish, and choose from 5 different signed excuses from work.
Maybe I should just get a job at there, so I don’t have to worry about excuses.
I don’t think the translator took the late bus; probably the short bus.
Maybe the translator walked.
Moammar Khaddafy’s translator did just recently.
most people who ride the short bus , can,t firgure there way in the world with out direction
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don’t care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there…take you there
We’re on a road to nowhere
Does amyone know what language that is?
I’m not A_m_yone
but I think it might be Danish.
Doesn’t look Danish to me. Guess Again mentioned Turkish, which looks more likely.
thats definitely turkish i know it cuz its my language!!
(btw who take these pictures from turkey??)
So tell us what it’s supposed to mean!
And the photographer/submitter’s name is underneath the photo – this one was sent in by a “Chris Barfoot.”
Direct translation from Google: Every 5 minutes a minibus through the lower path is
I think what theyre trying to say is that a dolmuş (mini bus kind of thing) will come every 5 minutes down the lower path.
I live in Turkey yet I don’t really know the language! ^-^
Is that the devil sign my stalking troll gave me?
It’s the : evil : one, rather than the : twisted : one. Oh and there’s nothing wrong with being either or both of those in the right situation.
They were both in that message from the Troll.
The Turkish text reads: “mini buses will go through a lower road every 5 minutes.”
Whatever they meant by that…
They must be going to a Turkish Underground gig.
Maybe the road is sinking and is lower every time the bus comes round. Last exit: Atlantis West
The bus is on a downward spiral.
THIS MESSAGE IS FOR ANYONE MAKING FUN OF THE TRANSLATION: I know that the translation isn’t all that correct, and it is kind of funny, but cut these guys some slack! They don’t really know English and at least they tried! I’m 100% sure that if I tried to write the Turkish translation for a sign in English, I would make a LOT of mistakes! So make your jokes, but don’t go too far please. ‘-’
P.S. It’s not a bus. It’s more like a minivan.
We mean no harm. We are picking words apart, not people. Their English is better than my Turkish!
If you read enough of these posts, you will see that some of us poke fun at our own language (English), too, and also at typos and grammatical mistakes by other commenters. Why can’t everyone appreciate that this has become a fun site about playing with language- anybody’s language?
We really are laughing at the funny things that can happen when a translation goes badly, and in no way do we consider that the person who attempted the translation is therefore stupid, or that the whole world should know English. A good portion of the craziest translations are done by computer software, in fact, which to me shows how valuable someone who really is bilingual still is, since the software programs are still nearly useless. And as I’ve expressed before, I hope that people in other countries are, at this moment, howling in laughter at some “translations” from English into their tongues! The whole point is that language is a funny thing, and a great deal of our fun is playing off each others’ comments, showing how statements made by (mostly) native speakers can even be ambiguous, subject to alternate interpretations, or inclusive of completely unintended double entendres. The only people we put down are each other and ourselves, and that too is all in good fun.
And for the completeley intended double entendres and ambiguous misinterpretations we get pounded by the Dreadful Pun Fairy.
Don’t misunderestimate our ability to take a joke aimed at ourselves.
Oh, I never do.
“There” is obviously Starbucks (or “Fourbucks”) —it’s the late bus.
hey thats in turkish i can read it. it says crowded buses must leave and in every 5 mins non crowded buses have to come from another path…
I am Turkish, 22 years old, Ocean-Going Officer. My English is -luckly- better than most of the people living in USA and Turkey; in both formal and daily form. Unfortunately most of the people who are living in my country has had no English education at all. But we are as welcoming as all the time, love to help tourists all the time. The sign is written in English with good faith, not with good English education. So make your comments next time, after considering these.
The “dolmuş” (Its like a inner-city bus but they are private like taxis, and they are at a smaller size: minibus -I suppose it’s self explanatory-) drivers has no exception at English education, and to make things even worser some of them can’t even speak in Turkish properly. -Also Istanbul is a very crowded city -13 Million people living in there-, you can find every kind of person there, even the ones that are not Turkish at all. So its quite normal for them to not to be capable of speaking in Turkish or English, nor Engrish.
Luckly the sign written in Turkish is all correct. I can translate it as:
“The “dolmuş” passes in every five minutes, from the road below.”
It probably is for notifying the passangers who are looking for the “old” bus-stop.
(Extra info: They stop at bus stops, they have different routes than busses, they go a lot faster as the driver usually goes “pedal to the medal.”)
* an inner city bus
Note to self: check BEFORE you post, NOT AFTER. ‘-_-
(dies shamefully)
Thanks for the clarification. Most of us are not here to attack anyone’s education, just to have fun with the Engrish.
“pedal to the medal” is a good one. (It’s “metal”, in case you were wondering).
BTW, I don’t even understand why you made that correction. There are other English mistakes in your post.
I am still learning. “-_- I wish I was living in USA or UK though.
By the way it was posted 10AM Pasific time. It was around 3AM here… Also I was very drunk. So you should be glad that I was able to hit the correct keys on the keyboard…
I think i am still drunk, It was midnight not 3AM, something else happened at 3AM lol
I have just come back from Turkey and saw this sign on loads of bus stops. If you ever go, make sure you take a dolmus it’s a brilliant experience, they just keep picking people up until literally they can’t get any more on board, also it’s very cheap I wish the British government would go and see what an excellent service it is and introduce it here! Also if you’re just walking down the road to the bus stop, and a bus is coming along, he will sound his horn in case you want the bus, and all you do is stick your arm out and he stops!
Yea, they are just the “Worst Bus Drivers” with the soul of “Best F1 Pilots”…
Dolmus means “Fully Filled” in Turkish, so they do what it means… I saw 30 persons in a dolmus once… Practically Insane.
Also normal buses a lot more bigger and cheaper than the “dolmus”es… Only downside is that they stop at bus stops and obey speed limits.
aslanmm yhaa!! doğru düzgün bir ingilizcesi olan sayılı türklerden birisin heralde!!
hahahahaa… mukemml!
