Directed by Billy Bob Thornton, two young men (Matt Damon and Henry Thomas) celebrate the recent ending of World War II by riding out of their native Texas into the wild west, meeting friends and fellow adventurers along the way. Once they reach Mexico, they become smitten with a young woman (Penelope Cruz) who is the daughter of a ranch owner. As foreboding clouds threaten their so-far sunny skies, the men throw themselves headlong into danger.

Now i get Rons look. He’s shocked by that description of the film.
And the title…
That’s SENATOR Franken, buddy!
It’s no Engrish, but it reads and looks like they took half a dozen popular DVDs, removed the sleeves, and shot the sleeves at a piece of artboard!
No, just two. The only part that isn’t from the back of the Harry Potter DVD is the description. Pbpope says that the description is from “All The Pretty Horses.”
I must have missed the “Wizard of Oz” on the back of the Harry Potter case.
I’ll check it again when I get home.
It says “The Wizard of Oz of its time” – just a reviewer quote.
Yes, that is what I said. Completely forgot to check it, though…
Not sure, but it looks like the DVD features list commentary by people not involved with either Harry Potter or “All the Pretty Horses,” maybe?
This does make an awesome FA!L blog post, though..
Yeah, so I was two days late and a feww hundred dollars short..
(but one “w” too long)
That “w” made up for at least one of the hundreds of dollars. Let’s make the fine $200 a day, for $400, minus the $100, so you just owe us $300. But there are a lot of us here, so I think you’ll need to contact that fine gentleman in Lagos, Nigeria, who has $587,000 US dollars he’s been trying to send you, if you would just give him the information he needs for the wire transfer…
Also the barcode is from a film called “What’s the worst that could happen?” with Danny DeVito and Martin Lawrence.
Or its a DVD cover project for a Photoshop or InDesign class, which is something we had to do when I went to school. Needless to say this person just copied and pasted all kinds of stuff from different DVDs. I would give this an F.
It says “‘The Wizard of Oz’ of its time.”
Whatever movie this happens to be, I don’t think it’s set in Kansas.
It is set in England, actually. If you look at the back of Harry Potter, it does say that.
Not the description, mind you, but “‘The Wizard of Oz’ of its time.”
The back of Harry Potter says that?
Like a tattoo?
The back of the DVD. I’ll have to look at it again when I get home, but I am reasonably sure that the Horses description is the only thing that does not belong there.
well, i don’t have the dvd but according to the internet the producers also are wrong.. tom cruise and the others didn’t produce HP..
Yeah, after I posted that, I noticed some of those names and thought it was a little odd.
That really is a curious juxaposition. All the Pretty Horses is not cross-over material for the Harry Potter crowd.
But the description makes them sound so similar!
The description is from the movie “All The Pretty Horses.”
Well, at least the title is accurate. This has surely been cobbled together from a variety of pieces.
LOL this belongs in failblog named “Harry Potter fail”
Harry Potter is fail.
With the commentary from “Bedazzled.”
Commentary by Director Harold Ramis
Commentary by Elizabeth Hurly and Trevor Albert
The original one? Let’s all join the Bouncing Beryllians!
i don’t like you go away…I think that really funny because my mom’s name is Beryl!;P
The Bouncing Beryllians was the order of trampolining nuns that Dudley Moore’s character got trapped in in the original “Bedazzled” film. Your mum never took holy orders, by any chance?
No…..i think i never really thought about it though.Oh,and BTW
i know who the Bouncing Beryllians are.
whatever it is tom cruise’s name is on the bottom
The pictures and actor list are Harry Potter.
The film description is ‘All the Pretty Horses’.
The Extras list is from Bedazzled (Harold Remus never directed Potter)
The credits at the bottom are from ‘Vanilla Sky’ except for the actors listed.
Oh, okay. I’ll have to check it again when I get home…
I’m quite impressed that anyone was able to figure out where all the pieces came from! You obviously know your cinema! But what I’d really like to know is, what film actually came in the package?? Or was the DVD inside just a mishmash of scenes from several movies?
Action Jackson is the movie contained within.
That’s a good question JohnB. What DVD is inside?
I will just have to rent it and find out.
Wait… What name should I look it under?
Harry Potter?
All the Pretty Horses?
Bedazzled?
or Vanilla Sky?
I once got a gift from a friend, when I was out of the country – she’d gone and gotten me a Hong Kong martial arts movie, “Chess Boxing Matrix”. I was so excited by it, but when I popped the tape into the player something decidedly neither Chess nor Boxing came up on the screen – it was some insane movie about hopping Chinese vampires. I’ve kept it just because it made me laugh so much. I never have gotten to see Chess Boxing Matrix!!
“Chess Boxing Matrix” is well known in occult circles as the secret name for hopping Chinese vampires. Chinese vampires who fly are known as “Domino Kung Fu Cube.”
Chinese Vampires-They Suck your Brood
What if your brood already sucks to begin with?
It sounds like it might be “Chinese Ghost Story”.
And the directors and writers in the credits at the bottom seems t be from Tarzan… (Kevin Lima and Chris Buck)
It’s made by the same people who made ‘Epic Movie’. Probably funnier too.
I’m surprised that no one has mentioned that it’s also rated R.
This is why pirated videos are so popular–high production quality!
I’m… not quite sure how this happens. I wonder how many of these were printed before someone caught that it has the wrong description and forgot the “o” in “‘The Wizard of Oz of it’s time’”.
Take another look; the “o” is on the part of the cardboard sleeve that’s cut out so you can get at the case inside easier.
If it is the Young FrankenDVD, it should have producer, director, and writer credits for Ab Normal.
You mean Abby Normal, right?
I’m still waiting for the tap dancing scene!
Frau Bleaucher!!!
Putting on the Ritz!
Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life
At last,I’ve found you.
Hrrrrrrrrrrr! Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! HRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Yup, made in china…
You guys missed one more movie mixed in there – the UPC code is from “What’s the Worst That Could Happen?” Seems appropriate.
Yeah, it is probably all photoshopped together or something.
Apparently Harry Potter is now rated R, lol.
Well, Danny did do a nude Equs.
Well, at least he didn’t do a clothes horse.
If I could only emoticon a “rim shot..”
*tish-BOOM!*
they actually used stuff from 2 different HP movies, the pictures are from Chamber of Secrets and the “wizard of oz” quote is from Socerer’s Stone. . .
They rode their broomsticks from the UK to Mexico, and when they got there, Penelope Cruz was being played by an underage actress. No wonder their expressions are so, well, bewildered.
wow that actually would be kind of an interestin movie.
I have a copy of Harry Potter with that description on the back! It was an illegal copy from Taiwan- I didn’t realise it was a mass error, thought it was just one screwup!
I said the same thing about my sister’s husband after she’d been with him for about a year or two…
This must be the DVD case for “The Back Stroke of the West”!
Or perhaps the Broke Back Stroke of the West.
This is a triple-feature if I’ve ever seen one.
…”I would like to go home now.”…
I love the scene where Harry died in front of the burning Atlanta depot, whispering “Soylent Green”. Only much later they found out it was the name of his car.
And that he was actually a she. And already dead.
HOLY $#@(% ON A (%^* SANDWICH!!!!!
Last time I checked, Dorothy didn’t have eyeglasses nor did she look like Harry Potter… nor was she Matt Damon. Go BillyBob!
Where did Toto go?
Somehow I think this could be the most awesome movie EVAR.
Especially with Harold Ramis attached.
I love this movie!
I wonder if this is from a pirated film—I saw a pirated copy of “Ratatouille” that had the description of a Garfield movie on the back of it. (If you look way down at the bottom of the picture, you’ll notice that the movie is “rated R for strong violence and language”. Hilarious!)
I’ve seen some really obvious black market movie cases, but this one is really messed up. Whoever took all that time and effort to make this DVD case should have also taken the time to do a little research into which movie he was actually stealing and conning other people with. So is the movie on the disc Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz, All the Pretty Horses or something else entirely?
There’s just no honor among thieves any more.
Produced by Tom Cruise, Paula Wagner, and Cameron Crowe, the team who brought you Vanilla Sky and Elizabethtown. Directed by Kevin Lima and Chris Buck, the pair who directed Tarzan. Starring half the cast of Harry Potter, with Noah Taylor from Vanilla Sky and Samantha Morton from Minority Report (both Tom Cruise movies). Featuring the synopsis of All the Pretty Horses, also commentary from cast and crew of Bedazzled. Finally, packaged with a barcode for What’s the Worst that Could Happen?
Seems like something I would watch! Pop it in the DVD player!
HAHAHA I have the same DVD case for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – same blurb and cast and quotes, but different pictures! I got it from Vietnam many years ago. I was actually considering uploading it to this site but didn’t think anybody would be interested. I have a bunch of Franken DVDs!
Where the hell did u find this dvd???
uh clearly you guys have never bought a bootleg. i get these all the time in downtown LA. half of them have harry potter on the back.
Personally, I think somebody who knows English very well had a whole lot of fun creating this, knowing that their bosses had no idea what they were doing.
cause like they’re the same, right?
