  4. Jennifer says:

    *puts on a skirt*
    *opens door a crack*

  5. paws4thot says:

Anyone else thinking of “The Sweeney” and “Life on Mars”?

  6. Lol, which anime did that come from?

  7. Spider says:

    Dirty… dirty… dirty policemen.

  8. LaEscopeta says:

How are you supposed to walk to get out of the building? Little shuffling baby steps? Bunny hops?

  9. Bradley says:

Actually, this probably isn’t a wrong translation, depending on the anime. I’ve seen some weird anime, with some weird “rules”. Maybe the person they’re after has superpowers unless they’re junk is exposed?

  10. Gosh says:

Gosh, If you’re pants are down, you can’t run, this isn’t engrish.

  11. chowderl says:

    what is that from??1

    • Ovatione says:

Isnt it from ‘Death Note’ the Japanese Animé series?

      • jameshogg says:

I don’t think so. L was never this openly aggressive when hunting down Kira.

      • Doc says:

Nah. It isn’t the same style and seeing as how Light’s father was the police captain, I don’t think L would have had to send a police squad to Light’s house if/when he suspected Light was Kira.

    • Kitsunechan says:

      It’s from Elfen Lied.

Admittedly a perverted series, it is a tragic tale, and this is from the part where they explain some backstory about a family that was brutally slaughtered in their home. The police show up to apprehend the killer, but what they find….

  12. Basara says:

One thing I’ve noted for the last 12 years is that the explosion of internet use and cheap computers is that a lot of stuff is getting fansubbed by people who understand a lot less JAPANESE AND ENGLISH (both) than they believe they do.

Back in the pre-internet days*, and in the early slow-speed days, where fansubs were traded using mailing boxes of VHS tapes from lists of product traded by hand/BBS/early web pages, people tended to put a little more care into their product. Granted, there still were a lot of errors and Engrish (And they were using AMIGAs to sub!), but the distribution method was so slow that the first few people would see the video, send back lists of corrections, and the subber would make needed corrections, so that by the time the show’s fansubs had been out 1-2 months, the subber would have a better copy made and distributing it.

These days, it’s fire and forget, with practically no one going back and fixing their errors, and practically forgetting an episode once thrown up on the net (because there’s 10 or more different subbers doing each thing, and many trying to do more SERIES in a week, than old-school subbers did episodes from ONE series in a month).

*(yes, there were anime fans before then – I was a member of one club from 1989, until the club became the core of the staff for a Cincinnati anime convention in 2000)

    • DuRêve says:

Yeah, yeah, gramps, you forgot to tell us how you had to walk uphill in the middle of a snowstorm just to get a crappily recorded VHS tape.

Oh, wait… back in 1992, when I first started watching some anime, things weren’t so different. Damn, am I feeling old now!

      • Vila Restal says:

**Shakes walking stick at DuReve** Watch it sonny!! I remember the war you know. In my day young people were..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……**Wakes up Suddenly** Apple pie please. :-)

  13. forge says:

See, this is anime. They probably wanted his pants down because his penis is a 90-foot extraterrestrial space octopus.

  14. Hebime says:

Then its not Engrish OR English Fail.
If the cops really want you to come out with your pants down, that’s what they are gonna say!

It’s much more fun to think that the translator is somebody for whom English is a distant 3rd or 4th language.

  15. andrew says:

    Fanservice!

  16. poyo says:

It is in fact, from Elfen Lied. I noticed the subtitles and thought it was odd

  17. LovePony says:

Anyone else notice they’re all wearing white plastic gloves?

  18. Fyreferret says:

From what I understand they actually do say that.

    1) if your pants are down, you can’t run away very quickly

    2) It is an obvious sign of giving up, so they wont shoot at you.

    Makes sense to me anyway.

  19. dr handle says:

Strangely enough, that’s exactly what my husband said to me last night.

  20. Yukionna says:

This is an anime called Elfen Lied. The setting is there’s some psycho murderer in that house who has decapitated all the inhabitants (and is also a little girl) and the police are supposed to be saying “Come out with your hands up” The result of the subtitles is just Japanese people who don’t know English well enough (or have watched too much Beevis and Butthead)

  21. valkyrie says:

    wasn’t this from Elfen Lied?

  22. REKKUSU says:

The person those policmen were talking to was like a 6 year old too. AH JAPAN!

  23. baw says:

Okay, from everyone’s comments it’s obvious this is Elfen Lied. Can someone tell me which episode this is from?

    • poyo says:

      Episode 10 I believe

    • Kitsunechan says:

Episode nine or ten, because those are the episodes with Lucy’s past explained. :3

I believe it’s in “Infant~Saugling” but I could be wrong. At any rate, it’s the part where Kurama’s past is revealed and the police corner a brutal killer in a home.

When they enter, a small pink-haired girl is crying, soaked in blood. She points to the back room when the police ask her where the murderer is, but when they check and state the all’s clear, the three year old child turns her “vectors” (invisible arms that move at incredible speed) on the police. The surviving man at the balcony shoots the girl in the forehead, ending her slaughter…

  24. Syntax says:

This is in fact Elfen Lied, though I can’t remember the episode.
I will have to look in to it. It is part of the flashback episodes, from when Lucy was a child and first started using her powers after meeting Kohta. At this point she was going around killing random people and living in their homes. I’ll comment again when I know the episode.

    • Syntax says:

Or Poyo could get to it first =P

    • dawg says:

The diclonius girl from this scene is actually not Lucy. IIRC it’s Silpelit #3, the one who infected Kurama and was ultimately killed (shot in the head by Prof Kakuzawa) before any of the main plot takes place. This is from a flashback, but it’s not Lucy’s flashback, it’s Kurama’s flashback.

I’ve also observed these odd subtitles but my guess is it’s just an error on behalf of the fansubbers.

  25. JohnB says:

Must have been the biography of Carl Jung.

  26. PointsOutTheObvious says:

Nobody deserves your left behind! Maybe they were anal retentive.

  27. Kitsunechan says:

Actually, it is a mistranslation. O_O This scene is from the anime called Elfen Lied, and while it does have a few nude scenes, this was not one of them…

In this scene they were trying to arrest a violent murderer, but what they found was not what they expected.

  28. JohnB says:

The nerve of some people, fnding humor in a cartoon, a crazy caption, or on a site called Engrish Funny!

  29. JohnB says:

    Reading comments? Who does that???

  30. R.Kelly says:

    Freud = Fraud, typo.

  31. JohnB says:

    Or “Cake Lied”?

  32. Jeff says:

Obviously this translator just finished watching Beavis & Butt-Head.

  33. LibraryJade says:

Perhaps it’s the episode where the killer HAS got the killer octopus schlong, and if you don’t want to be shot on sight you have to come out with your pants down so the police can see your wee willie winkie…

  34. alyssa says:

    YAY ELFEN LIED!!!

  35. ormewood says:

    Isn’t this from Elfen Lied?

  36. Kami says:

I saw this. It was on Elfen Lied. . . back when I had no idea this site existed.

  37. abigail says:

omg they ruined the whole series of elfen lied

  38. LOOOL says:

Is This the Bad Cop routine?

  39. Hyde says:

  40. Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

  41. Polyshot says:
