First, this is a menu @ any given chilean restaurant (that’s south america, ok?). “Chupe de Locos” is a typical sea food, and the “Engrish” is in the word-by-word translation, not interpretation. Second, “chupe” sounds like “chupar”, that’s “suck” verb in spanish; and “locos” here, when speaking of food, are abalones, not “crazy” (that’s the meaning of “loco” in spanish)
I thought “chupe” in this case means “it absorbs”, as in the rice, bread crumbs, etc absords the juice and flavor of what is cooked with it.
Then again I missed the county this menu is from by about 8,000 miles, so I don’t have high hopes about being right this time either.
Well “it absorbs” would be “absorbe”, and “chupa” means the same but it’s informal.
“Chupe” is not actually standard and correct spanish, but it’s kind of a noun made from the verb chupar which is actually “to suck”.
I don’t know chilean food nor chupes or chupe de locos, but appart from being a food, the main meaning of “loco” is “crazy” as in a crazy person. It’s just as informal as crazy, so if you translate it literally it would be something like “a crazy’s suck” or “a suck of crazies”
I think Chupe is used for this kind of food because it’s juicy or has sauce, so you not only eat it, but you suck it also.

So “pil pil” is almost like a fish broth. You know, kind of like the water the chicken is boiled in becomes chicken broth. I reckon you can make pil pil if your flat comes with a fish instead of a chicken.

“Suck of Crazy” you think is the actual translation? Maybe you “Chupe de Tonto”, and I guess you think I’m talking about the Lone Ranger’s partner. Do you translate the word llama into “he/she/it calls” when referring to the animal? It’s the “actual translation” in Spanish, but problem is the word is Incan /Quechua.)
Chupe de Locos is specific to Chile and Peru, and obviously doesn’t travel well to other Spanish speaking countries. It means “abalone stew” or “abalone soup”, since chupe in this case means “soup.” Jennifer does explain this higher up, but it doesn’t seem like you bother to read comments, just pass judgement on the picture.
The funny thing is that this would be a second generation translation boo-boo, since the original was mistranslated from a regional Sudamerica term into Spanish. What would the term for this, the equivalent to “Engrish” in Spanish? Espendejo? The persona who screwed up the Spanish translation then screwed up translating it into English…

well i think you are a little cunffused jaja im mexican from puebla mexico so well in our country we put the translation for our american friends at our beutiful beaches so well “suck” isnt what you imagine it is the literal tnanslation of the word not the meaning lwe use a lot of words thath have more than one meaning a chupe is an mmmm like a fish cooked with some licor so it gives a verry delicious taste and smell and de locos is more like an expession mm like awsome so when it says chupe de locos it is like “awsome wined fish” and the crab one is the same cooking process so it is suck so thaths what it means mmm sorry for the grammar im trying jeje

The thing with this is, there are so many typical names for food, it’s uber-hard to translate them properly! It’s not like “burger”, “chicken” or something you can easily translate, or doing a word-by-word thing with some sense in it.
