Lol@Dutch Text
No explants, just implants please!
So, if I understand correctly from the English text and the Dutch text that makes it clear for who the “no explantion” is meant to, people must please tour guides, and tour guides aren’t allowed to explain why? XD
Until I checked the Dutch translation, I thought EXPLANTATION IS NOT ALLOWED meant “Do not pick the flowers”.
You over there, yes, you! Stop that explanting at once! I warned you about the up and downing already – just knock it off! Or one of the Tour Guids will require pleasing…. or ferf huck’s sake, look at that, now he’s walked on the grass and gone swimming, some people…
but if im going to please a tour guid, id like and explanation to why im doing it……
Cannot has – explantion is not allowed!
Yeah, the Japanese says “Guide’s explanations [or 'guided tours'] are prohibited inside the museum.” Still not sure why.
The museum obviously explains itself and then prohibits it.
Ahhhh!
Stupidly enough that does make sense.
In the Sistine Chapel in Rome (the gigantic fresco by Michelangelo), there is a no-talking rule in the big room where the fresco is. The no-talking would probably refer to tour guides explaining the sights.
The chapel was pretty noisy and full of school groups so there was a lot of echoing shushing when the noise rose.
I have no idea why the rule existed. I think it was either to help visitors enjoy the artwork (it was really cool), or had something to do with a preservation effort.
When I worked as a tour guide, I was prohibited from giving information on monuments and museums we visited, as that was the job of specialised guides working there. It’s a form of job protection; keeping local people in a job instead of foreign tour guides doing it.
Thats exactly how it is. It`s like that all over the world.
If they see more than 3 people gathered around 1 person ,somebody will surely come and warn you that only the staff is alowed to give information.
The reason is very simple. Most of the museums nowadays have 1 goal, and that is to earn money. It is basicaly a business just like any other.
Yeah, but our job in museum work is to protect the museum objects and preserve them so there is a story to tell and let visitors enjoy them.
In Europe at least (last time I checked) tour guides are required to have degrees in what they are guiding (archaeology, art history, e.g.). That isn’t usually the case with museum docents/guides in the US.
Yeah, it’s probably for funding reasons… but unless a museum is really well known, they’re usually strapped for cash and try not to live of their endowments…
You are allowed to think about it, but only people who can read your mind are permitted to hear it.
buahahahaha! good one!
It’s nice to know they have access to Google Translate though…
I like it how you judge the Dutch translation from translating it with google translate yourself, the main cause of hilarious translations.
As said before, the Dutch translation, as for the English and Spanish one (below the Chinese text), is correct.
actually the dutch text is correct, gehaktbal.
By pleasing tour guids you will get more favors. WTF?
Lastige V is right, there is nothing wrong with the Dutch text.
The dutch part means: Guides are not alowed to explain.
Guess there are enough Dutch people on this website… Goed werk!;)
This has nothing to do with “bad english” or “bad dutch”. They do mean it like it is written.
It’s just like in churches in Rome; you have to respect silence, as is what they want here.
They ask tour guides to stay silent for religious / respectful reasons.
lol why is there dutch in the left corner? xD
Can’t explay. mabye this poster just has a Dutch history. Don’t ask me.
Though I like the fact my home language is actually on this site ^_^ (FYI: I’m Dutch)
Yey. Another Turkish Engrish *clears throat* Ahem. In many Turkish museums you see thousands of signs indicating a long list of forbidden stuff. Here they try to say that tourist guides are not allowed to give lectures to the tourists in loud voice which spoils the fun for the other tourists who rightly prefers to see and learn for themselves.
“Please tour guide” – So just how fat is this guide? “I’m not saying the tour guide is fat, but all 4 of their chins have separate zip codes” fat or “I would call the tour guide fat to their face, but my car can only do 500 miles on a full tank of gas” fat?
