  1. George B says:

    Does this mean no Asians?

    • фдуч_шяь says:

it means grass and trees only. no people!

      • JohnB says:

Interesting Cyrillic screen name. My Russian is admittedly rusty but I do not recall any words like those. And if I’m not mistaken, a myagkii znak following a ya does not occur in Russian, since the effect of the myagkii znak is to soften the preceding consonant. Don’t know what it would do to a vowel…

        • фдуч_шяь says:

And Russian is the only language, of course, which uses Cyrillic alphabet, isn’t it?
Plus this is not really a word. My name is Alex and my last name starts with an Izm. when you type it in Russian keyboard layout it comes out like this.

      • Droll not Troll says:

No grass or trees! We don’t want that coloured trash in this park!

  2. JohnB says:

No, it means only racists are allowed in the park! So welcome all ye Nazis and KKKers and skinheads!

    • ObscureWittyReference says:

So would that be a racist ghetto then, where they’re confined and not allowed out into the general, non-racist population? Might not be a bad idea. I can’t wait until they start fighting about which of them is whiter or purer than the other.

    • Jake says:

what about black people discrimating against white people and jews who say all germans are evil?

      • JohnB says:

What about ‘em? Nobody ever said racism was a one-way street. I used to be friends with a black man who was a white racist. He considered his own race inferior. He wouldn’t even consider dating a black woman. And then my wife’s stepfather is a white Jew who has given money to racist candidates, e.g. David Duke. I keep trying to persuade him that these racists are not going to like his Jewish ass any more than they like the black people (in fact, in some factions of the KKK, Jews and Hispanics are hated even more than blacks), but it seems to fall on deaf ears. I’m a psychologist, and let me tell you, racist attitudes are among the most difficult attitudes to change! They have usually been deeply ingrained by the parents from infancy on.

        • ObscureWittyReference says:

People who support racism that is against their race/ethnicity/whatever – I have never understood this.

          • JohnB says:

I have never understood racism at all, even when it is the usual form. The logic of passing judgment on someone you don’t know, based on skin color or gender or ethnicity or religion or language or sexual orientation, has always totally escaped me. And I am not claiming sainthood at all. I simply seem to have been born without whatever gene it is that makes so many people think that way.

            • ObscureWittyReference says:

I think it’s a self-esteem thing, at least with a lot of people. They may be poor, uneducated, unattractive (in the estimation of whoever counts to them), not have many obvious options of what to do with their lives, whatever, but if they can convince themselves that they are better than someone else by accident of birth – then they are happy to look down on those people.. I don’t agree with it, but I can grasp their logic, however flawed. But the people who are pro anti-themselves (per your earlier examples above)? This just makes no sense.

              • JohnB says:

That also, I’m sure, is a “self-esteem thing,” but in this case the low self-esteem is associated in their minds with their own ace, ethnicity, etc. In this case, instead of convincing themselves they are better than people who are different than them, they convince themselves that they are an exception to the general rule and are better than the people who are like them. Then they try to “better” themselves by identifying with the dominant culture or race, trying to fit in there instead of with their peers, whom they shun.

            • JohnB says:

There is a distinct difference between recognizing that there are general differences in culture between black and white Americans, or between Western cultures and Asian, etc. etc., and automatically assuming that because someone comes from a particular ethnicity or race that they “must be” just like them, or believing that one culture is “superior” to others. All humans make generalizations; making generalizations does not make one a racist. Racism is appying generalizations to each and every person in that category, and/or using the generalizations to denigrate another culture or person. So I’m so sorry to disillusion you, but I am not a racist, and I sincerely doubt you could find anyone who would say otherwise about me.

            • Droll not Troll says:

I’m not racist. Some of my best friends are racies.

            • pachecokid says:

Actually that is the definition of prejudice. Prejudice literally means to judge before. That is a prejudiced notion is one that judges a person or group of people based on a real or perceived norm for a greater group to which the judged group or individual belongs.

Racism is the notion that “races” are irreconcilably different, and in many cases also includes the idea that some sort of intrinsic hierarchy of those races. Racism is also associated with a strong dislike for another race, often because that race is seen as inferior in some way. The definition of race for this is quite fluid. For instance during the nineteenth century many people in the United States considered people from different European nations to be of different races, especially the Irish.

Racial Supremacists are those who explicitly believe that their own race is superior to all other races.

Racists differ from racial supremacists in that racists only hold certain groups to be inferior in a general sense, while racial supremacists hold all other groups to be inferior to their own group.

    • dissimilitude says:

I think it’s where you park your racist until you need it for something. What we can’t tell from the sign is whether it’s short-term or long-term parking.

      • Gone_With_The_Wendell says:

Do I get a discount for Racist Parking? I could lie about being racist if it’s cheaper.

      • dr_handle says:

Hey, a racist is for life, not just for christmas. If you don’t want your racist anymore, you should have it humanely euthanised.

        • dissimilitude says:

But my racist keeps urinating on the carpet and attacking the neighbors….

          • dr_handle says:

If you are really attached to your racist, although I’m sad to say that they really don’t make terribly good pets and are very difficult to retrain, you could try having it neutered and see if that helps with the spraying.

        • Audball says:

Or you could put your racist up for adoption…but, please, if you do not have a racist, consider adopting. There are millions of racist in need of a good home.

          • ObscureWittyReference says:

They just prefer a home where the people look like them. Don’t forget that. You can try socializing them with racists of other backgrounds, but be aware that this is takes a lot of patience, and that full acceptance of integration is rare.

            • Audball says:

Of course, you have to watch out for the overly aggressive racists. Most of these just can’t be re-trained, and must be humanely euthanized.

      • PoodleGroomer says:

It is where bicycle racists park until their event.

    • Jojo says:

Nazis weren’t racist… they were just genocidal.
      Hmph… fine… they were racist.

  3. thedeebo says:

The park is racist. If you aren’t Engrish, don’t go in…

  4. JS says:

Nobody seems to have bothered for this one yet, so —

“min2zu2″ = ethnicity, race. In this case, probably short for “minority ethnicity”, meaning this is probably a cultural park demonstrating the “traditional way of life” of one of the minority ethnic groups of China. It’d be kind of like if upstate New York had a version of Colonial Williamsburg that had people doing Iroquois dances and crafts, or something.

    • Much Glory Hopeful says:

errr… you lost me when you mixed upstate NY with Williamsburg.

      • Audball says:

No, they mean if NY had a version of Williamsburg…I think. (Love the avatar, by the way!!)

        • Much Glory Hopeful says:

Yes, and since it was a nice explanation, I shouldn’t pick on JS – but… it seems it would have been simpler to just say it would be like colonial Williamsburg.

(Thanks! I wish more people here had hand-picked avatars, it would make things more interesting. Eventually, you have your favorite posters and learn to recognize them by quickly scrolling thru the thread.)

          • Droll not Troll says:

“I wish more people here had hand-picked avatars”- I suspect that, like me, a lot of people haven’t worked out how to do that. Care to let us in on the secret?

            • I'm the chief says:

              how about mine, then?

              • Much Glory Hopeful says:

                What about yours?
                (OK:
                1) Find a picture you like that will still look decent when it’s small. Save it to your PC. Yeah, you’ll probably be breaking a copyright law, but don’t lose sleep over it.
                2) Go to gravatar.com and follow the instructions on how to link your pic to your email address (the address you use here).
                3) When you’re done, wait a few minutes, refresh your browser, and check it out back here.
                )

                • dr handle says:

I like my pentagon – it’s captured my usual expression of “What the hell is going on?” perfectly.

                • Droll not Troll says:

Many thanks, MGH! I don’t feel so dumb now. When I noticed the custom avatars appearing, I searched the links on the forum page to see how people were doing it. I kept thinking I had missed something.

        • ObscureWittyReference says:

NY does have its own Williamsburg, in Brooklyn … but it’s not a bit colonial, as far as I can tell.

    • Kid Choronsom says:

That’s what the text in Chinese says…according to the English part it’s something completely different.

    • Prattle Assassin says:

Yes, my guess is it refers to the Minorities Park in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. When I visited it seemed like a horribly exploitive human zoo. Ugh.

    • Michael says:

This must be an old photograph. The park in question is in north central Beijing, not far from the main Olympic area. As part of the preparation for the Olympics, the Chinese government convinced corporate sponsors to come in and re-do many of the public park signage. In the case of MinZuYuan (Ethnicity Park), Nestle provided all the new signage. I lived in Beijing from 2005 until 2008 and searched actively for signs translated as ‘racist park,’ but I think they had all been replaced already.

  5. Mark. Gooley says:

So… cultural park? There are parks in Florida that try to show what it was like for settlers, and then things like Colonial Williamsburg, yes. (I have this evil urge to replace a sign for that with one that reads Colonal.)

  6. PoodleGroomer says:

It is spring and all the bicycle racists are in training for the yellow t-shirt.

  7. countdooku says:

We’re having a picnic this Saturday in Racist Park. Just follow the burning crosses and turn left at the noose tree. We’ll be sitting at the swastika tables.

    • dissimilitude says:

Question: Will wearing white sheets still be considered appropriate as it is long after Labor Day? Fashionable racists want to know….

  8. NegroSaki says:

Damn, they burnt our table again.

  9. mikki54 says:

    Evelyone’s a rittre bit lacist… sometimes.

  10. Smartass says:

    WTF

  11. Cybe R. Wizard says:

Hmm, no one has yet noticed that the middle green ideogram looks like one man hitting another over the head with an implement of some kind?
First thing I saw after reading the Engrish.

  12. Meleon says:

    Rofloflofl. Favorited.

  13. Artur Phk says:

Racist as in “RACE” or “RACING”… Bad English you know?!

  14. These parks will not fly in the USA
