No luck so far. Found the Cakewrecks blog & also many links leading to it, but still none of the aforementioned “cake mishaps”. Strangely, (?) most of the hits on a “cake mishaps” search are actually about cooking! Go figure!

Cake mishaps usually occur when whoever is meant to be icing the cake copies the instructions for the decorations exactly as they are written, rather than reading them and carrying them out. For example, an instruction as follows: “write Happy Birthday Helen, draw daisies underneath” would result in a cake with “Happy Birthday Helen Draw Daisies Underneath” written on it.

Since the first character is styled like short form Chinese rather than the long form, I’m going to guess there are more culprits.
脱衣 instead of 脫衣.
Since it makes sense in Chinese as well “disrobing prohibited”, I’ll guess someone was reading it aloud and someone wrote it down wrong as well, similar to many “cake mishaps” where directions get including in the icing.
脱衣(tuo yi) I undress myself…
and…
禁止(jin zhi) prohibited, written down as “prohibit it”.

The extra space and font misalignment of “prohibit it” is typical of a copy and paste on a Windows based system using Microsoft’s PIN YIN entry.

The clues tell me that it was likely made in China, and probably used in Japan as “close enough”.

I travelled to Okinawa/Japan this week, and I saw this sign a lot on the ferries.
I took a similar photo (same text, just a different place and colour).
The sign says that taking your clothes off is prohibited. ["datsui kinshi" (undressing + prohibition)]
No idea what led to this translation, though …

FWIW examining the image file with a hex editor reveals the word “Adobe” so it has been altered. Doesn’t necessarily mean the words were changed but close examination also shows a larger than usual gap between the words “and” and “prohibit”. So IMHO it certainly looks fishy.
