Glad my family isn’t the only one. One day we were teasing my toddler nephew, and told him that his grandmother was a “Granny Monster.” Needless to stay, it stuck instantly and to this day, 22 years later, she’s still Granny Monster. Boy, she’s gotten some strange looks at the grocery store.
Must be the name of one god, demi-god or another. The Egyptians had Mut (or sometimes Nut, “u” pronounced like “oo”) the sky-goddess. Mayhap “Mom” is “Mome” or “Moom,” or just “Mom” to make the Westerners giggle. I’ll Wikipedia it, but I need to know the country of origin. It almost looks Chinese, but possibly Thai.
In thai writing, pronounce Dtua-Morm (think “more” but end with “M”).
The reason why they got the translation wrong is because they translate letter by letter (eg. น=m อ=o). Correction: Dtua=Creature, Morm=Dirty so to correct this Dtua-Morm= Dirty Creature.
I speak Thai and have seen this thing up close. It is at Wat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It says tua (a body or something that…) mom (to consume, to devour). So it is ‘the consumer” or “the devourer”. These are set outside important places to guard the entrance, like stone lions are other places.
No, it’s true, this is definitely an artistic representation of my mother (particularly on those days when she skips her meds & ain’t had her coffee yet…)

Beautiful mom
Did you know that sleeping with baking soda in your pillowcase decreases your chance of developing diabetes?
The moar you know.
Duh, everyone knows that! Did you also know that shoving a knife down your throat increases longevity?
Mother?!??
that’s her in the morning
we call my mom “momzilla” so much that she refers to herself as “momzilla” too.
Seems they make statues of her….
Not just in the morning, Thrawn… my mom’s a ‘zilla alllll day.
lol lol lol

I’ve been calling my son and nephews “(name) Monster” since forever.
And my nephew’s father taught him the word for “grandmother” is “monkey” when he was two, so now to everybody calls her “Mongey”.
Lauch on the outside!
Yep, looks pretty accurate to me.
shouldn’t it be “nom”?
Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Ohhh Yeah! Maybe the image is flipped! :p
…flipped? Yeah… cause that would spell MOM instead of MOM…
Nom Nom nom
(Dragon burp)
LOL!
That would be WOW
Yeah, that’s what my first thought was too!
no ‘s not
Its Mom…in-law…
Mommy, what are u doing at a museum?

I’m pretty sure it’s Thai.
Seconding the “It’s Thai.”
My mother-in-law has a photo on her wall where she stands next to this particular statue in Thailand. I will ask her what the sign means.
More like Thai or one of the other right to left language in the region
Doesn’t look Chinese at all. I can understand if one mistakes Japanese or even Korean to certain extent to Chinese but Thai is just Thai.
Silly me, yes. It’s thai. Don’t know where I got Chinese from. I better lay off the Nyquil.
Mom before coffee, it should say.
I think it should say “Mom when you don’t do your homework”.
mom mom mom mom mom
That angry expression DOES resemble my boyfriend’s mom….
NOM!!!
Thai engrish for Nom?
omg.
they cloned my mother.
I’m waiting for the engrish… I didn’t know I was on “Completely-accurate-and-to-the-point.com” =P
That does look like my Mom!
The translation is Dtua Morm. At least one translation of that is Dirty Body… !? Can anyone who’s actually Thai give us more context?
How about “how on earth does that translate to “Mom”?
In thai writing, pronounce Dtua-Morm (think “more” but end with “M”).
The reason why they got the translation wrong is because they translate letter by letter (eg. น=m อ=o). Correction: Dtua=Creature, Morm=Dirty so to correct this Dtua-Morm= Dirty Creature.
So they skipped the entire first part, thus ensuring the laughter and possibly sympathy of most English-speaking people?

Dtua (or tua) means creature in this context.
Not sure if morm here means “to poison” or “dirty”.
Thank you for the information!
Hahaha, looks like mom!
Apparently, the temple builders had problems at home
So it actually could be nom?
-teh Eater=Nom?
its a MUTHA type cuss with dragonthreat, but they’re trying to keep it polite
my girlfriend got the exact same picture when we were in Changmai
No, it’s true, this is definitely an artistic representation of my mother (particularly on those days when she skips her meds & ain’t had her coffee yet…)
I want one for my front steps!
They even mispelled NOM
Did you know that alligators are the mammals that can make the loudest noise?
So that IS my mom. Because my mom can YELLLLLL. (:
Alligators are mammals now?
Taxonomy fail!
What, you didn’t get the memo?
Reminds me of my mother-in-law
This is absolutely awesome. I want one for my front walkway. Make that two.
Angry pushy Asian mothers.
OM MOM MOM.
…
>_>
So, where’s DAD?
Maybe it’s what the thing is yelling. “MOMMMMM!! I’m stuck on these steps and now a bunch of Western tourists are laughing at me!!”
¡¡¿¿WHO THE HELL TOOK A PICTURE OF MY MOTHER??!!
