Really? It looks like it surprised it’s posterity.
Hm…I can see more than one origin of this, though they both relate back to “fun.” Perhaps it’s supposed to say “amusing” house (a.k.a. fun house). Or perhaps “amused” comes from funny (i.e. because when something’s funny, you’re amused by it), and whoever did the translation equated funny too closely with fun.
