    Where is the “Engrish”?
    What was the intention?
From where is the sign? (Self-made?)
I think I will have some funny ideas, too… :-)

I think I know what this is from. There are fake “sleeping” cats and dogs that actually look like they are breathing. My dad got one just to mess with his grandkids (not my kids) and make them be quiet and if you push on their stomach it will mess up the air pump that makes them “breath.”
It was so funny when the kids found out it was fake.

      • mrs. W says:

        Yes. They freak me out.

Please to stop breathing the fake not breathing cats. Not breathing cats are unnatural and are not natural. Please to stop them please before I yell with fright.

    !!!

I wonder what this says about English syntax. It is barely intelligible, but it sort of gets a point across!!

I wonder if there is a field of linguistics that specifically deals with this king of “Engrish”???

    We’ll see.

I read somewhere that English has some manner of redundancy and a breadth of synonyms that makes it somewhat decipherable even when the syntax is mangled. The very oddness that makes it difficult to learn seems to make it more fault-tolerant.
I know that for a lot of these Engrish signs, the meaning is quite clear if you just think about some synonyms of the odd-looking words.
