In alot of asian restrooms they still have the toilets flush to the floor. To some it is probably weird to sit instead of hover.

You would be surprised at some cultures. Standing on the second act (or squatting) is a feat performed by some people.

In Afghanistan, we called it carpet bombing. Another nice one that is prevalent over there, is doing doodie in the showers. Yech.

My grandparents had this sign in their toilet, although it was slightly different and simply said:-
Ladies – Please remain seated for the whole performance
Gentlement – Please stand a little closer, it may be shorter than you think.

The construction of it always confused me, I wondered why a short performance would require the gentleman to stand closer.
It was one of those cutesy hand painted wooden signs with some little picture on the side.
They had a second sign next to that that said
If you sprinkle when you tinkle,
Please be sweet and wipe the seat.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same.

Someone I know went to Japan and a sign with the same translation was in one of the restaurant bathrooms. She said you could choose between big flushes, little flushes, flushes with jasmine scent.. It sounds like it would be an excellent reward.

in traditional chinese the characters in the first line are not supposed to be the same as the second line. different word, same pronunciation. kind of like hair and hare.

simplified chinese is lazy and the real character is more complicated so the same character is used. one of the many reasons why simplified chinese sucks.

so it should mean,

“coming in you’re in a rush, going out you should flush.”

In Japan, when you finish your performance a machine comes out of the toilet and washes you and then another machine washes the toilet seat. Thats why they call it performance I guess =P

it’s also a play with the word “flush,” which means “in a rush” in everyday context.

I agree, nothing worse than going into a bathroom needing to take a dump and checking each stall to find a clean one, realizing someone pissed all over the seats in each stall, being forced to clean up someone elses mess.

Every bathroom should have one…especially the one at work, ugh. It’s a very logical sign, probably a bit clearer than the sign they’ve posted on the washroom doors: “To respect others, please clean up after yourself.”

this is actually part of a English joke sign.

“Our Aim is to keep this Bathroom Clean.
Gentlemen: Your Aim will help. Stand closer, it’s shorter then you think.
Ladies: Please be seated for the entire performance.”

So really it’s not all that funny.
