    That’s the oddest translation of this I’ve ever seen, but the normal translation is something like:

    The air conditioner in this car has been [intentionally] turned down.

    This is usually car 4 on JR trains in the Tokyo Area. Not sure about other areas, or private train lines. Strong AC actually isn’t all that great for you if you keep moving in and out of it, and so if you’re worried, you use this particular car to lessen the stress to your body of constantly going from hot to cold, moist to dry environments.

    I took the exact same photo two weeks ago, intending to post it to this blog. Procrastination fail!

    Actually the one I took was one a (different) private train company. But they both run through the Asakusa line. So maybe it’s Toei’s sign.
