I don’t think this is a mistake, going by the little French I know. It’s a ‘date’ party, where you go wearing a different colour depending on how ‘available’ you are. Going by that poster, green means you’re taken and only there to party, blue, I’m not sure, seems to be saying they want to meet but nothing serious, in which case red means they’re looking for a serious relationship.
Someone who knows more than gcse c-grade French please correct me as soon as possible

Wasn’t trying to translate it pretentious, just going from a brochure for a traffic light party I have here. Red = go, green = no. Don’t ask me why, I’m just reading from the advert I have.

My english may not be excellent, but I’m french so I can tell that it’s quite the opposite to what you said.
It’s a “free condoms” party (“open capotes”), so it would surprise me if the “maybe sex” was unintentional. France is less puritan than the US, very few of us are shocked by seeing a soap advertising on TV with a nude girl with apparent nipples for example.

umm well in this case green- ‘celibataire’ means single. and red- ‘pris’- translates to taken. so i think you’ve got that backwards

I will never, ever, forget that celibataire has a strong connoatition of “looking for sex” after the former french teacher at my high school nearly fainted when she heard a “Learn French” video telling us that saying “Je suis celibataire” just meant “single.” Actually, her translation of it went something like “Well, it sort of means ‘single,’ but if you say it on the streets of Paris, you’re really saying something more like ‘I’m a whore!”
Actually, “célibataire” just means “single”. But if a girl goes by the streets claiming she’s single, wherever she lives, she’ll always be looking like a whore…
One more thing : “Open capotes” is a reference to “open bar”… But “capotes” means “condoms”. That was to be said ^^
I’m French and I’ve lived in France all my life but I’ve never heard of the word “célibataire” being used to mean anything more than “single”. Of course it’s always possible (in any language) to make use of *nudge, nudge* and *wink, wink* to give extra meaning to any word, but I’m afraid whoever said that “célibataire” means “whore” has a screw loose somewhere, no pun intended.

Makes sense. I think the ‘older’ meaning in english for celibate is ‘to be single’, with the inference (at the time) that you don’t have sex outside of marriage. We morphed the word over time.

It means what it says, but it does use poor English grammar. “Meet” and “dance” are being used as imperative verbs. Then “maybe sex” used this way makes it look like “sex” is being used as a verb as well. To be grammatical, it should say “maybe have sex” or perhaps “maybe f**k.” “Maybe sex” just doesn’t work as proper English there.
