I am 99% sure I’ve seen this exact sign. It’s in Hakone in Japan in the queueing area for a cruise boat. I would have got a photo myself but was to busy going “WTF!!!”.

The sign actually does say, “to customers who are smoked”, but that’s not what it means. It’s written very politely, and one way to politely refer to the actions of a social superior is to use the passive form of the verb. Babelfish actually gets that part correct if you feed it the text, which means the sign-maker used a fairly crude translation program.

A literal translation would be: “To respected customers who (honorably) smoke tobacco: the premises have humbly become non-smoking, we request (you do it) outside at the smoking corner”.
