The machine looks like this (with swedish text translated)
——————-
Press For Map
[button]
Push
Out
[indicator light]
——————–
“Slut” in this context means “Out” as in “We’re out of maps”. The person photographing the machine cleverly cut out the bottom of it.
Yeah yeah… my (american) wife had a good time visiting sweden with me with all the signs like “Slutstation” (End station) in the subway, “Slut” (we’re out) on the ice cream stand, “fartkontroll” (speeding checkpoint) on the freeway.
You are absolutely right…I’m a Swede and I think that’s funny.
We also pronounce 6 “sex”…even though we use that word in the same way as in English too….stupid Swedish (referring to the language), it really IS a silly language. By the way I’m a Swedish language teacher, so believe me when I say it.
“We also pronounce 6 “sex”…even though we use that word in the same way as in English too…”
My linear algebra teacher once proclaimed: “Anyone want to have sex?”(I think he was prompting the class for an eigenvalue of a matrix or some such), then his face acquired a pink-ish hue.
Yeah I don’t get the point of posting stuff that’s not even Engrish. Engrish is when Asian languages are poorly translated to English, yes? This isn’t even funny, it’s not wrong translated, not translated at all… That’s just how our language looks. “Press for map, push, close”
this, if not you have a funny with looking at
then to comment not for telling this us too
best is better if don’t you do
ok?
Serious not fun to enjoyableness
happy are we immensely with silliness and giggly words
need for loosen brain and understand happen occur for you, yes?
roid roid roid…
The swedish language is funny and stupid….just like Roid-Signe
And I just happen to be a Swedish language teacher…
…so I say this with authority.
Signe you’re sad…you come to a site that is made for the sole
purpouse of laughing at foreign languages, but when someone laughs
at your language you go all insane about it….what a clown.
HAHAHAHAHAHA…you crack me up nörd.
What’s with the mega over reaction?
I say a language is funny, and that makes me “fu**ing sick”…..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I can’t stop laughing at what you write with since you have that avatar face
I start to believe it’s actually your real photo.
Calm down will you…noone is threatening your person..your just a silly guy with a avatar that matches to us. No evil inteded…just a little bit maybe.
There are circles above your letters! How can you not say that your language is weird? This site is meant for English speakers, not Swedish speakers. Slut is funny in this context for someone who doesn’t know what it means. Why are you making this so difficult?
The funniest part about this one isn’t because it’s truly Engrish, but because I spent minutes trying to figure out why the first three words were funny, then I scrolled down a little bit farther and found.
Yup, go Sweden with its “slut” and other non-Engrish, yet still funny words.
Often at the delivery roads or in the parking lot of some company, etc. there’s a two-way sign saying “utfart” and “infart” with arrows showing the way out and in. Before I started to grasp Swedish I always had laughing fits whenever I saw this one.
I utfarted at the trainstation last week. The slut sat next to me and proceeded to light up a cigarette. She complained so I pushed her in front of the train and now she is featured on failblog in her wheelchair in the back of a cart being pulled by an Amish horse. *WIN*
All you people pissing and moaning about it not being Engrish just be quiet. This site may have started as a funny asian to english mistranslation site but it appears to have changed to a “may look funny even if not even translated foreign language” site. Deal with it. Or start your own site.
I’m with Random — this may have started out with Asian languages, but has now expanded into anything that originates in another language and looks funny to someone who speaks English.
I think that this picture leaves something out for comedy purposes…
I think that there is more text and another button below the bottom edge of the picture. I.e, one button saying “push for map” and the other button for ending the spectacle (“slut” meaning “end” in swedish).
Showing both buttons would probably not have been as humorous since it wouldn’t as clearly have appeared to say “push slut”. Still, would be interesting to see the whole thing and what it says in it’s entirety.
it’s even more fun to invite Italian speaking people for a ‘fika’, I learned last week
Sry Ermannio
And, there are truly a lot of words in many languages that look fun or as in this case a bit naughty, only if you read them ‘from the right language’ point of view.
Are you trollin’ me? I’m a Swede. Kiss == pee for us. “Haha lolol so funny” – words in one language that have another meaning in another just gets old after a while.
Engrish, on the other hand, actually is fun – the whole “lost in translation” thing – but words that just have a different meaning is… meh.
How funny that there are so many Swedes here! I have family in Sweden and spent a year there in high school… always found it hilarious when I wanted to get an ice cream, and a sign on the kinds they were out of said “Slut.”
Turister förstår sällan svenska så push blir väl bättre. Sen så står det “slut” som är svenska och säkerligen något under det som fotografen tog bort för att försöka få det till något som liknar engrish men som många andra bilder här så är det inte engrish. Denna sida är ett skämt. Den hör hemma på failblog. Varje gång man kommer hit blir man besviken. Bah. Dom kan väl åtminstone lägga till “and funny words in foreign languages that is similar to english words”.
Jag tror inte att man lär hitta engrish i Sverige. Swenglish ja, engrish nej.
In english:
“Push for map” (translation from “Tryck för karta” which is Swedish)
Tourists seldom understand swedish so push is probably better. Then it says “slut” which is swedish (means empty in this case in english) and surely something under it that the photographer took away to make it look like something that is similar to engrish but like many other pictures on this site, it isn’t engrish. This site is a joke. It belongs on failblog. Everytime one comes here for engrish pictures you get disappointed. Bah. They can atleast add “and funny words in foreign languages that is similar to english words”.
I don’t think that you’ll find engrish in Sweden. Swenglish yes, engrish no.
And hopefully their last name will be “Ahl” and get a daughter named “Ann” (sounds like anal in swedish) and to make up for it, a daughter named “Jennie” (sounds like genial in swedish).
It’s similar to the elevator buttons in Denmark which have a light labeled “I Fart” which means “In motion”. It comes from the same root as the German verb Fahren (Es Fa”hrt – it goes) which also is where the Volkwagen Fahrvergnu”gen comes from.
I don’t get it? Probably because I’m used to a bit of Swedish
This is not an engrish.

tee hee
This is Swedish.
Slut is a Swedish word for “Close.”
It says “Press for Map” above.
NO ITS NOT THE SWEDISH WORD FOR CLOSE! THEY MEEN THE END DUMBASS!
Silly Swedes, sluts can’t read maps.
They have difficulty “closing” too.
That’s why they’re sluts.
GET IT?!?
HA!!!
(sorry… afternoon caffeine deficiency)
*pushes*
win.
Only if they are Blonds…which most Swedes are
Yeah… right. ”/
sämst!
Well actually it doesn’t mean “close”, it means more like “all out” or “the end”/”ending”.
And yes, it’s Swedish. Not really Asia.
Or is it?
My life might be a complete fraud!
It can mean “close” too…as in “slutna ögon” for instance.
By the way….are you in the mustache of Gotlands Rickard Berggren?
No, not in the form of “slut”. So, I have to disagree there.
And no, not Gotland. Skåne!
I form av uppmaning: t.ex “slut dina ögon”…vilket såklart betyder “stäng dina ögon”
But then again you guys in Skåne speak danish haha
Top of the Page: “Engrish Pictures and other Funny Engrish Mistakes in English FROM AROUND THE WORLD.”
Yet more “ho ho, foreign words are funny in English”? Dude, that’s not Engrish. FAIL.
DIT TOE.
But…
Foreign words are funny in English!
Say it with me now, “Djibouti”
You are absolutely right…I’m a Swede and I think that’s funny.
We also pronounce 6 “sex”…even though we use that word in the same way as in English too….stupid Swedish (referring to the language), it really IS a silly language. By the way I’m a Swedish language teacher, so believe me when I say it.

My linear algebra teacher once proclaimed: “Anyone want to have sex?”(I think he was prompting the class for an eigenvalue of a matrix or some such), then his face acquired a pink-ish hue.
Well, yeah. There should be a site for that or something!
This site works just fine for that!
wahoo! djibouti is wonderful to say!
Karta-don’t push it’s a trick! -Slut!
Yeah I don’t get the point of posting stuff that’s not even Engrish. Engrish is when Asian languages are poorly translated to English, yes? This isn’t even funny, it’s not wrong translated, not translated at all… That’s just how our language looks. “Press for map, push, close”

My brain hurts reading that
mine too
I don’t think my language is funny.
Calm down roid-Swede…ok it’s not pure “engrish” but it’s still funny.
Slut!
Well I don’t think it’s funny… It’s just how my language looks.
Guess what? To us English-speakers, YOUR LANGUAGE LOOKS FUNNY. Get used to it, babe.
Hey my language isn’t funny
But that’s fun, too.
You are SOO right…I bet the Signe actually looks like his avatar.
hahahaha
Maybe you should go out and push some sluts, Signe. Then you would feel better.
Hey…why don’t you go and fu*k someone OTHER then your
self for a change…you seem to need a lay.
Honestly I sleep just fine.
well you’re a sad person… it’s so pathetic that you’re harassing me just because i don’t think my language is stupid
lending Signe “Relax, It’s a Joke” a nice book about
removing a stick from your ass.
I recommend decaf.
I recommend decaf.
Wow, I guess I REALLY recommend it.
roid roid roid…
The swedish language is funny and stupid….just like Roid-Signe
And I just happen to be a Swedish language teacher…

Quit the patriot roids and life will go smoother
But it IS translated… there’s no “Push” in Swedish. See?
It’s not translated… It’s obviously meant for Swedish speakers.
We do NOT have a word “PUSH” in Swedish…why it’s perfectly valid to
continue reading the next word in English too…
Actually people sometimes do use the word push in Swedish… Why I don’t know.
That doesn’t make the word Swedish.
it’s not translated either. and swedish isn’t a stupid language.
I’m sorry, what CoUNTry are you from again?
There are circles above your letters! How can you not say that your language is weird? This site is meant for English speakers, not Swedish speakers. Slut is funny in this context for someone who doesn’t know what it means. Why are you making this so difficult?
The funniest part about this one isn’t because it’s truly Engrish, but because I spent minutes trying to figure out why the first three words were funny, then I scrolled down a little bit farther and found.
Push Slut!
I cracked up.

*WIN*

Oh and CobraJoe, it was the same for me too.
Wow, that was random, and he was thinking like me!
She.
Even better!
Women never think like me, nor do they think they like me…
Watch it — I’m a blonde!
I’m with Random — this may have started out with Asian languages, but has now expanded into anything that originates in another language and looks funny to someone who speaks English.
Gave me a laugh for today!
i had a keyboard from the swedish handelsbanken with “slut” written on a key…
Pfft. Engrish should be someone actually attempting to write something in English at least, shouldn’t it? :/
Just leave.
Well, yeah, I am familiar with how the internet works.
XD I’ve just realized that there were many Swedes commenting on this site!
Jättebra^^
Jag instämmer med det. Det är faktiskt fint.
OK, enough Swedish, because then some will again start moaning about how this site is only for English-speaking folk
I think that this picture leaves something out for comedy purposes…

(För övrigt är jag också svensk ^_^)
Have you ever tried to invite an English-speaker to go “fika”? XD the ensuing misunderstandings are quite funny!
it’s even more fun to invite Italian speaking people for a ‘fika’, I learned last week
Sry Ermannio
And, there are truly a lot of words in many languages that look fun or as in this case a bit naughty, only if you read them ‘from the right language’ point of view.
Oh god! I have to ask my Italian korridor mate then
omg svensker suger
norge<3
Ok, seriously, I’m gonna begin sending in my “kiss”-pictures soon.
(lolol kiss == pee! HAHAHA GET IT? PEEE!!!!)
I just don’t see the charm. :/
kiss doesn’t mean pee in english so you miss the whole point.
Still, “kiss” doesn’t mean “pee” in English…it means “pee” in Swedish.
This site is in English…right?
No, it’s in Engrish. That’s my point.
How funny that there are so many Swedes here! I have family in Sweden and spent a year there in high school… always found it hilarious when I wanted to get an ice cream, and a sign on the kinds they were out of said “Slut.”
Ice cream slut, you can’t have it.
(I lived in Tranås, btw)
Varför står det ‘push’? xD
ingen aning =p
Jag kan inte förstå varför, cpigt :/
Kul att se så många svenskar här, vi är verkligen ett nördigt folk
And to the rest of you, we can actually speak english, we just don’t…
“Tryck för karta”
Turister förstår sällan svenska så push blir väl bättre. O.o there are a lot of Swedes here!
They need a link to a language teaching site or something…it’s never too late to learn a language!
More “funny” swedish words:
Bra = good
Kiss = Pee
Fart = Speed
Sex = 6
And hopefully their last name will be “Ahl” and get a daughter named “Ann” (sounds like anal in swedish) and to make up for it, a daughter named “Jennie” (sounds like genial in swedish).
beslut = decision
be slut. he he
I had no idea Swedes were so stuck up! It’s kinda disappointing…
y is slut like this? sl*t sluts not a bad word
It’s similar to the elevator buttons in Denmark which have a light labeled “I Fart” which means “In motion”. It comes from the same root as the German verb Fahren (Es Fa”hrt – it goes) which also is where the Volkwagen Fahrvergnu”gen comes from.

Another one is the phrase “Clearance Sale” in Danish: slutspurt
Actually i don’t find this being engrish at all.
Mostly because i am swedish, but still, if you could see the whole thing you would find it funny.
THIS IS KARTA!!!!!
NO! THIS IS PATRICK!
if i push it does it automatically make me a slut or is it gradual
who is this girl?
Hey Swedes. 1-6. U Mad?
Thank goodness some bloggers can write. Thanks for this read!!!
That was a truly great writing!!
