  1. Onion says:

Cabbages and condiments I presume it should be.

  2. tinascratch says:

    and cabbage-flavored condoms. Mmmmmm.

  3. Onion says:

Comments about carrots and cucumbers are inevitable I suppose.

  4. Liandri says:

Heh. I’ve been in one of these places. God knows why but it actually means ‘Condoms’. In the one I went in they have condom packets under glass as table decorations.

Can’t explain the idea behind it, I’m assuming it’s a play on the trade that Thailand is famed for, lol.

    • xq28guy says:

I guess you didn’t read up on how the owner is pushing for safer sex practices. You might google Mechai Viravaidya, the founder.

  5. Jonathan says:

Actually this is a not a translation error. STDs are a big problem in Thailand due to its booming sex industry. The restaurant was started as a gimmick to promote safe sex. When you eat there, you get condoms with the check and they have a gift shop where you can by condoms, condom accessories and Cabbages and Condoms themed apparel. The food, thankfully, is not cabbage or condom themed.

  6. Baba says:

There is actually a good reason for the name of this restaurant. They’re part of a foundation to reduce AIDS in thailand and the premise of the Cabbages and Condoms is that their aim is to make condoms as readily available and as common as cabbages are in markets. Gettit?

  7. rewboss says:

Anyone else want to post to explain all about this restaurant and how it got its name?

    • Matthew says:

From what I understand, STDs are a big problem in Thailand. The creator of the restaurant is Mechai Viravaidya, and…. okay, it isn’t as fun as I thought it would be.

    • Not really, but since you asked:
      >nope. it’s 100% intentional. not really engrish either, it’s intended as a light hearted >way to promote condom use. google Mechai Viravaidya for more info on the founder >of the place, he’s known as the “Condom King” in Thailand and he’s done quite a lot >to prevent the spread of AIDS in the country

      Thanks for playing.

  8. SteinRJ says:

Been there. The name is intentional. STD’s is a big problem in Thailand.

  9. stablercake says:

    Yet another non-engrish fail.

  10. OVERRANDOM says:

It’s not Engrish. It’s actually an awesome restaurant. The name isn’t wrong either. The entire restaurant has that theme…

    Oh, and free Condoms.

  11. Judy says:

Fantastic food, great atmosphere and lots of excellent condom-themed souvenirs in their gift shop. Nothing Engrish or unintentional about the name at all.

  12. CollegeMinds says:

I’ve Been There! I used to live in Thailand for 2 years. The whole restaurant shows the history of the owners vendetta to get people to use condoms throughout Thailand to reduce the spread of AIDS. I’ve got 5 keychains myself. Well I had 5, but apparently, someone thought they were funny and stole 3 of them. :(

When I first heard about that restaurant, I was like…What the hell?

  13. Matthew says:

It’s across the street from “Barbecue and Bareback.” They have the best creampie in Thailand.

  14. Wolverine Girl says:

…with a fried egg on top, and spam.

  15. JJ says:

mmm spam falavored condoms there’s something u dont see every day

  16. JJ says:

falavored.. spelling- FAIL . I APOROGIZE, reary. Im rawy.

  17. Barack Obama says:

The above man is wrong. When I am elected president, I will bring this restaurant chain to America, just because the above man doesn’t like it.

  18. A Noun says:

“Honey, do you think the noodles are a little…chewy?”

  19. red13 says:

I’d be suspicious of the white sauce meself. XD

  20. cosmostator says:

Just remember: you can’t spell “Manchurian Candidate” without “McCain.”

  21. lolbukkit says:

WAIT, I DON’T GET WHY THE PLACE IS NAMED CABBAGES AND CONDOMS. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN IT???????????

    • tinascratch says:

      Read much?

      • lolbukkit says:

        Understand sarcasm much?

        • tinascratch says:

I find that the ironic tone is sometimes lost in this medium.

          • lolbukkit says:

I can see that, but taking in to account the content of almost every post above mine and the use of ALL CAPS it should have been fairly clear.

            • tinascratch says:

Many of the most dim-witted comments I’ve seen come in all caps, so it actually enhanced my impression that yours was a legitimately boneheaded post. And the fact that the sign had been explained thoroughly overandoverandover made it seem entirely likely that few if any of those posting were actually reading previous comments.
However, since it seems very important to you that I acknowledge that your post should have stood out as ironic rather than sincere, I APOLOGIZE FOR THE ERROR. We good now?

    • xq28guy says:

WELL, I guess lolbukkit doesn’t read anyone else’s posts and doesn’t know how to use google. It’s sad when people like lolbukkit live in the shallow end of the gene pool.

  22. ryszard says:

You can tell the girls are clean. They wear white socks.

  23. 9squirrels says:

Just to add to the previous comments, there’s a Cabbages and Condoms restaurant in Bangkok, and I believe a second somewhere else in Thailand. Food is AWESOME, highly recommended if you go to Bangkok, or the other place that they have a restaurant.

  24. multifariousnature says:

that restaurant is pretty good, I lived down the street from it for a while:)

  25. waverly says:

I saw this restaurant in Kyoto, Japan. It’s Thai food, but it’s absolutely beyond Thailand.

  26. ineedaname says:

Food + a blow great combination.

Someone should’ve thought of it sooner!

  27. Oh my…
    I can’t begin to understand!
I am sure though that I won’t be eating there.

  28. Ni says:

I’ve been there too. The lamps and everything were made out of condoms. The food was awesome.

  29. caroliz says:

I ate there. The restaurant promotes use of condoms and donates proceeds. They also teach women to earn money with Thai massage instead of prostitution which is still abundant there tho it is now illegal. The place is decorated with “condom art” and the food and service are very good. They give condoms instead of mints with the ticket at the end of the meal.

  30. Niki says:

Cabbage as an aphrodisiac? What a concept!

  31. Cookie says:

    the perfect combination!

  32. petmousse says:

    *falls off couch laughing*

  33. wetrt says:

i been there too, they just promote safe sex

  34. Guacanator says:

Most flavorful of taste is condom!
Give stomach the herpes of most painfully!

  35. attorney says:

  36. millardoug says:

hat is a real place .I can prove it.I’m Thai
