Well it’s just the same thing about this being correct danish than with the MEGAPUSSI, it’s not a bad translation, it means bag in finnish. I didn’t see anyone complaining about that though. But I still think both of those are funny and don’t really see why engrish funny couldn’t stand for things that seem funny in english even if they are correct in other languages…

I think it might be worth the time just to count how many Engrish post pages start out with “well, actually this is not Engrish…” From linguistic niceties to debates on the nature of what, exactly, constitutes funny, it seems to be a prevalent topic. I shall call those counters The Funny Police.

When my parents first went to Australia they met an old couple who had visited DK years back. They asked my folks what “i fart” ment because they had seen it in an elevator and had been wondering for years what the heck it ment.
Btw… We also have a city called “Middelfart”
I guess it is just a matter of time before someone posts a picture of one of all the traffic signs here in Sweden that says “INFART” which means roughly “(car) entrance”/”approach”
I suppose it makes a change from the trashy muzak you usually get in lifts.

I think it’s a bit sad to see Engrish taking this turn towards words/sentences that aren’t the least bit funny in the native language, and only remotely amusing in English… It may be that my idea of Engrish is somewhat different from everyone else’s, but I can’t help but thinking “Engrish… You used to be cool.”
Just so you know, “私はデンマーク午前” means “I’m Denmark before noon”, so be careful with those online translators.

I didn’t even use an online translator… I used an online dictionary and asked a (non-native) Japanese speaking friend if it looked ok – he then fixed the kanji for me (because I’m not at all good at japanese). Can’t wait till he needs something translated into Danish again.
And just FYI, Google Translator (http://translate.google.com) actually translates it into “I am Danish”, but yeah, I know… Automatic translations – FAIL!

All this discussion of what the word ‘fart’ means in Danish, and I didn’t see the Danish translation for fart anywhere. Come on and give it up, you Danes, how do YOU say “fart”? (I’m guessing “schtinkzen” or something like that)
Fart in Danish would be “prut” or “fis” – a “prut” is generally louder than a “fis”.
