Not that I can fully make out the other sign, but if it were a stairway… (and bicycle path as well?!) to heaven, that would make me happy… And apparently, Queen once again. They must be using mountain bikes.
Why are you that upset about this pic? It’s not that serious. And just because someone laughs at it doesn’t mean they’re 35 yrs old or a virgin. Please get the stick out of your butt. It’s Friday now!! That’s something ot be happy about.
Whereas you are correct in saying “hell” means luck, the Norwegian word for hell is “helvete”. “Hel” means whole. I agree that it’s not exactly Engrish, it’s not a misspelling or mistranslation, but it is still something that amuses English speakers when they see signs like “welcome to Hell”.
I’d say this is neither Engrish nor a FAILure. Just another one of those non-english words that become humorous in english. Just as “gods-expedition”, “fart kontrol”, etc, etc.
I’ve also noticed more images in the FAIL section lately which are arguably not failures at all…
Maybe there should be a new and separate section for all of these random funny pics which are neither engrish nor fails?
Nope, the sign is European-style (blue with white text). And besides, Michigan is home of the automobile. Do you really think you’re going to find bicycle paths there?
Hell on norwegian means “luck” in english, hell on english means helvete on norwegian;) hell is a little place near Trondheim (city) if you fly to norway, værnes (airport).. værnes is in hell:D
Definately, definately, means all bicyclists and Peado’s are headed for hell.
Lawyers too but they figured that’s a given, no need to waste sign space on that one.
Alternative song: He was right. That ain’t no upwardly mobile freeway.
OMG FIRST!!!
TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL street
yes, Hell is not too far from my city, ive accoully dined there once.
I heard they do the best food there. get it? lulz ^_^
you know what pearl? you just set the stereotype perfectly…
Made my day.
Lemme guess… paved with good intentions??
nobody cares
We’re on the bike path to hell?
so, that’s where AC/DC were talking about
Now that gas is so high, it was demoted from highway to bicycle path… which also makes Queen a bit happy.
a leisurely bicycle race along a highway to hell? how bohemian!
Classic rock tie-in double WIN!
Classic rock? Thanks for making me feel old. Someone pass me the Geritol.
Not that I can fully make out the other sign, but if it were a stairway… (and bicycle path as well?!) to heaven, that would make me happy… And apparently, Queen once again. They must be using mountain bikes.
There is a small town in Norway called Hell. It freezes over approximately from late November to early March. Just so you know.
There’s also one in Michigan in the USA
In Soviet hell Russia freezes over
and just think when someone tells u to go to hell….u know where to go
This is a correctly spelled sign which clearly communicates it’s message without grammatical errors or innuendo. How is this engrish?
whatever we can laugh at is english
Now, now, I think you’re being a little harsh on the English language there.
Have to agree – especially since there’s a city of Hell right here in the US. Doesn’t really qualify as Engrish.
I think this belongs to Failblog.
Hell means Luck in their language. Hel is Hell, as in the Goddess Hel.
But yet again, no one bothers to look into anything they just laugh their 35-year-old-virgin arses off.
hey now! personal attacks on the other patrons are not necessary! did you ever think some of us might be 19 year old cripples?
Or centuries old barbarians?
Or thirty-five year old- wait….
Funny thing… I am a 19 year old cripple from Norway. Amazing how that fit well with both your comments.

That’s odd. That road seems to be paved with just regular concrete. Hunh.
ROFL! WIN!
But is it a highway?
Could have been taken near Hell, Michigan, too. Neither Engrish nor Funny.

Nah. I’ve been to Hell several times, and there’s nothing in the area that even remotely looks like that. It’s a very small town.
The festival on 06-06-06 was pretty awesome, though.
Nope, the sign is European-style (blue with white text). And besides, Michigan is home of the automobile. Do you really think you’re going to find bicycle paths there?
Sign Interpretation:
“Bikers and Pedophiles with Small Boys to Hell”
i think it’s “Hell is other people and a bicycle”
Home at last… I thought I’d be lost forever
Once again, we’re back in Norway. This may be the most attention Norway has ever gotten.
After Dead shot himself, thats the last time Norway got this much attention.
Enough.
My ship sails in the morning…
I wonder what’s for dinner?
Don’t you mean SUPPER?
But is there a sign at the other end of the road saying “Back”?
Later evening, we eat within Hell St.
Pffft, I’m not walking or biking to hell. I want my hand basket, dammit!
get a convertible PT Cruiser then. THAT looks like a handbasket.
Nature trail to hell! In 3D!
Yes, this is from Norway. The blue / white signs are used for walkpaths / bikelanes.
Wait a second.. that road doesn’t look like its paved with good intentions at all.. I’VE BEEN HAD!!
Go to hell, turn right.
This could also be in Germany. Their word for ‘light’ is ‘hell’.
Here in Holland, we actually have a small town called Hell.
been there. michigan has a town called hell and it most definately freezes over.
