  4. roxtar says:

  5. nathreee says:

There is a small town in Norway called Hell. It freezes over approximately from late November to early March. Just so you know.

  6. rehbeinator says:

This is a correctly spelled sign which clearly communicates it’s message without grammatical errors or innuendo. How is this engrish?

  7. Saze says:

I think this belongs to Failblog. :D

  8. Meh says:

Hell means Luck in their language. Hel is Hell, as in the Goddess Hel.

But yet again, no one bothers to look into anything they just laugh their 35-year-old-virgin arses off.

    • AbacusMaximus says:

hey now! personal attacks on the other patrons are not necessary! did you ever think some of us might be 19 year old cripples?

    • wundawomun says:

Why are you that upset about this pic? It’s not that serious. And just because someone laughs at it doesn’t mean they’re 35 yrs old or a virgin. Please get the stick out of your butt. It’s Friday now!! That’s something ot be happy about. :)

    • NameRequired says:

Whereas you are correct in saying “hell” means luck, the Norwegian word for hell is “helvete”. “Hel” means whole. I agree that it’s not exactly Engrish, it’s not a misspelling or mistranslation, but it is still something that amuses English speakers when they see signs like “welcome to Hell”.

  9. Jonas says:

I’d say this is neither Engrish nor a FAILure. Just another one of those non-english words that become humorous in english. Just as “gods-expedition”, “fart kontrol”, etc, etc.

I’ve also noticed more images in the FAIL section lately which are arguably not failures at all…

Maybe there should be a new and separate section for all of these random funny pics which are neither engrish nor fails?

  10. Iason says:

That’s odd. That road seems to be paved with just regular concrete. Hunh.

  11. Adrian says:

    But is it a highway?

  12. Lars Clausen says:

Could have been taken near Hell, Michigan, too. Neither Engrish nor Funny.

    -Lars

    • Jess says:

Nah. I’ve been to Hell several times, and there’s nothing in the area that even remotely looks like that. It’s a very small town.

The festival on 06-06-06 was pretty awesome, though.

    • jamar says:

Nope, the sign is European-style (blue with white text). And besides, Michigan is home of the automobile. Do you really think you’re going to find bicycle paths there?

  13. Tom Trifik says:

    Sign Interpretation:

“Bikers and Pedophiles with Small Boys to Hell”

  14. joad says:

Home at last… I thought I’d be lost forever

  15. geetard says:

Once again, we’re back in Norway. This may be the most attention Norway has ever gotten.

  16. Dork says:

    Enough.
My ship sails in the morning…
    I wonder what’s for dinner?

  17. Ninjaman says:

But is there a sign at the other end of the road saying “Back”?

  18. Rufus says:

Later evening, we eat within Hell St.

  19. Sinthe says:

Pffft, I’m not walking or biking to hell. I want my hand basket, dammit!

  20. PobCat says:

Nature trail to hell! In 3D!

  21. oslo says:

Yes, this is from Norway. The blue / white signs are used for walkpaths / bikelanes.

  22. Whip says:

Wait a second.. that road doesn’t look like its paved with good intentions at all.. I’VE BEEN HAD!!

  23. Pendo says:

    Go to hell, turn right.

  24. Caroline says:

This could also be in Germany. Their word for ‘light’ is ‘hell’.

  25. Sigh.. says:

Here in Holland, we actually have a small town called Hell.

  26. been there. michigan has a town called hell and it most definately freezes over.

  27. bad in english, sorry.. says:

  28. Jenrai says:

Definately, definately, means all bicyclists and Peado’s are headed for hell.
Lawyers too but they figured that’s a given, no need to waste sign space on that one.

Alternative song: He was right. That ain’t no upwardly mobile freeway.
