It’s sad that I’ve seen this sign in real life!

  9. B3llit0 says:

Japanese text (ペットのフンはあとかたづけを) is more correctly translated as “Please pick up your pet’s waste.” Google Translate gives an even worse result than the sign, “Hoon was given to get rid of dogs”. The Japanese syntax reads along the lines of “Pet poop to pick up it.”

      That’s awesome!

    • That One Guy says:

Where can I find one of these “Hoon” things? My neighbors dog is annoying as hell so gettind rid of it sounds like a good idea.

      • DaveF says:

“Hoon” is nothing more than a transliteration of the word フン which means feces/poo/sh*t/etc. Google translator must not have known how to translate the word so it simply wrote it best it could in roman characters. I would have transliterated it as “fun” myself; the initial consonant is one that isn’t found in English, made by rounding the lips as if one were to make a “w” sound then blowing air through the lips without vibrating the vocal chords. A voiceless bilabial fricative, as it were.

Today’s lesson in linguistics is concluded.
